Out of Tune Pull is a phenomenon that most commonly affects note panels with adjacent note panels that are an octave higher or lower. The affected note panel can sound out of tune when the adjacent octave note is free to vibrate. When the adjacent panel is damped, for example by a magnet, the affected note will sound perfectly in tune. There are more subtle instances of Out Of Tune Pull that occur; it’s not uncommon for the Fifth on a rim note on a Lead Pan to cause the adjacent note panel to sound constricted or out of tune (for example, the Fifth on the side of the Eb4 is Bb5, which interferes with the Octave on the end of the Bb4).
